YLD Sunday: A Vision for Inter-Generational Ministry
Speaker: Rev. Ho-Ming Tsui
Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 2:7-12
What inter-generational ministry does NOT mean:
I. Tolerance: Two or more generations existing together
II. Transmission: One generation teaching another
III. Takeover: One generation replacing another
The ingredients that make up inter-generational ministry:
1. We have a common language: Love
2. We see each other through a common lens: The Gospel
3. We aim for a common goal: Life Transformation Across All Generations.
*Inter-generational Ministry Commitment: Everyone in our church will humbly help each other grow into full maturity —becoming people who are marked by and live by the love of God
Are there specific responsibilities that older and younger generations have within the church?
1. “Serve and Honor”
a. Older generations have the responsibility to SERVE those who come after them (v. 7-9)
b. Newer generations have the responsibility to HONOUR those who have come before them (v. 10)
2. “Empower and Accept”
a. Older generations have the responsibility to EMPOWER the newer generation to fulfill their calling (v. 11-12a)
b. Newer generations have the responsibility to ACCEPT the calling God has given them (v. 12b)
