The karmas bear sweet or bitter fruits of happiness or agony caused by virtue or vice.
What we experience is based on our past actions.

14th Sutra Chapter 2
ते ह्लादपरितापफलाः पुण्यापुण्यहेतुत्वात्
te hladaparitapafalah punyapunyahetutvat
·       te - they
·       hlada - happiness, delight, to rejoice
·       paritapa - pain, agony
·       falah - fruits
·       punya - virtue
·       apunya - vice
·       hetutvat - having as their cause.
ते ह्लादपरितापफलाः पुण्यापुण्यहेतुत्वात्
ते , ह्लाद , परिताप , फलाः , पुण्य , अपुण्य , हेतुत्वात् ॥
• ते - वे (जन्म, आयु और भोग)
• ह्लाद - हर्ष
• परिताप - शोकरूपी
• फला: - फल (देते हैं, क्योंकि)
• पुण्य - पुण्य और
• अपुण्य - पाप (उनके यथाक्रम से)
• हेतुत्वात् - कारण हैं ।
वे (जन्म, आयु और भोग) हर्ष शोकरूपी फल देते हैं, क्योंकि पुण्य और पाप उनके यथाक्रम से कारण हैं ।
