You Are a Craftsman - Creation for Connection | w/ Phil Kirkland

Listen Later

Some men build with wood and steel. Others build with words, ideas, or relationships. However it shows up in your life, God wired you with the heart of a craftsman.

In this episode of *Tribe Talk*, Mike and Jim relaunch the seventh archetype from the book *Seek Adapt Endure* with special guest **Phil Kirkland**. Together, they explore what it means to live as a craftsman modeled after the greatest example of all time: Jesus Christ.

The conversation starts with creation itself. When God formed the universe, He didn’t just display raw power; He displayed artistry, order, beauty, and purpose. Then He invited Adam into that work by bringing the animals to him and asking him to name them. Why? To connect with His son and to show him how to connect with others through creative work.

Mike, Jim, and Phil discuss:

- How God, the Master Craftsman, uses creation to reveal His heart and invite relationship

- Why your creative instincts (in the shop, studio, office, or home) are not random, but part of your calling

- Practical ways to use your skills, projects, and hobbies to connect with the Father and with brothers in Christ

- How creativity can become a tool for evangelism, discipleship, and community-building

Drawing on Homer’s line from *The Odyssey* – “Those that are craftsmen of the people are welcome over all the wide earth” – they show how craftsmanship can open doors, build trust, and create on-ramps for the gospel.

If you’ve ever downplayed your creative side or treated your projects as “just a hobby,” this episode will challenge you to see them differently. You are a craftsman, and what you create can be a bridge between you, others, and the God who made you.

Listen in and let this conversation sharpen your vision for creation as connection.
