Matthew 3:13-17

Jesus was baptized “to fulfill all righteousness” for us. Jesus went into the waters of the Jordan river clean and came out marked for death, carrying our sins.

Now, at our own baptisms we get plugged in to the saving work of Christ and are given the Holy Spirit as our energy source that never goes out. The Holy Spirit comes in our baptisms to empower us to live as children of God. We went in to those water dirty and dead but have come out clean and truly alive—a new person.
