When you claim Lincoln as one of your own, you disregard the political shift that happened starting with the FDR Administration. If you put Republicans from Lincoln's day in a time machine and brought them here, they would not be Republicans. They back to Lincoln when he ended slavery. This wasn't just Progressive for its time, it was revolutionary.   The only upside to doing that was to be decent human beings. Not only would Lincoln and the Republicans of his day not be Republicans now, they would be joining the Black Lives Matter protests.
