You Are There presents "Assassination of Abraham Lincoln" 11/21/48

Abraham Lincoln was sworn in as America's 16th President just before the Civil War began. His life was ended by an assassin's bullet five days after General Robert E. Lee surrendered.

The country was shocked, although Lincoln himself believed he would be killed. The day of the shooting he told his chief bodyguard as much. He even had dreams about it. John Wilkes Booth, an actor who shot the President at Ford's Theater, escaped on horseback. He remained at-large nearly two weeks before he was captured and killed.
