They fell in love in college; however, they weren't prepared for some of the challenges that came their way.  Her Mom wanted the best for her daughter and that wasn't Nathan. Nathan didn't see hope for them to overcome her family's disapproval. 

Though that may have been what broke them up, that was only the catalyst. They both had a tough time communicating and were stuck in a lot of people-pleasing patterns.
