Matthew 4:1-11 - breadI love bread. All of it. Donuts. Pretzels. White bread. Rolls. Cinnamon rolls. Bread sticks.I never met a carb I didn’t like. I could make fresh bread all day every day and be fineHere’s the problem- Jesus says- you can’ t live on that. You might be able to live, but you cantYou can’t live on Bread- you need the word of God. You need to feast on it. You need to know it

We live by the word of God4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”You hear me and us talk a lot about the Bible here- Its something that we believe in and that we preach and stake our lives onFor some people, that’s a struggle because they have never lived by any restraints ever. But even your job has some sort of guiding principles, no matter how weird they may beWe put full trust in the Bible. We believe we’re going to heaven based on the Bible. That we’re forgiven from our sins. That God speaks to us, and we can listen and communicate. We believe in all the stories. It literally directs every affair of my life. Wife, kids, finances, health, relationships, what I watch, where I go, who I am friends with. I am directed in all aspects of my life by this book. – When I first got saved- Go get a bible- read it- do what it says. Still have itBut why? Why is the Bible central to our faith? Some will say that I don’t have to read my Bible to believe in Jesus. But this is the best selling, most studied, translated, distributed book in the world. It’s one of the few books that people are actually afraid of. Governments fear it.But why?? Why does it direct our lives? Why a book? Easy- Verbal Plenary InspirationEasy for you to say- 2 Ti 3:16-17 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for [a]instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. What does that mean? Verbal- Every word. Plenary- All parts are divinely authorative . Inspiration God guided the ProcessVerbal Plenary Inspiration means that Every word in the bible, all parts of it, in its entirety is authorative by God and because of God who guided the process of it being written and recorded in history 2 Peter 1:21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but [a]holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

means- men didn’t sit down to write the book to do anything more than what God told them.40 authors over 1500 years wrote the Bible and it all fits together. Because God directed themJesus said this about the OT- Luke 16:17  And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one tittle of the law to fail. The Apostle Paul said this- Romans 15:4  For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.Paul, the former Christian killing Jew, says, everything that was written was for usAnd who can testify this morning that Bible has changed their life? Redirected your path, comforted you, loved you, spoke to you, inspired you, helped you, healed you, changed you!Psalm 119:105  Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.Every last part of this Bible- every jot and tittle- meaning every small part. Every word. If its plural or not. If its included or not. Its all there for a reason to teach us something and shouldn’t be discounted for any reasonThis is why we defend this thing so deeply. It doesn’t change because God doesn’t change.Proverbs 30:5-6  Every word of God is [a]pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.6 Do not add to His words, Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar. Now, the words themselves have no power. They are just words.
