In 1 Samuel 3:4–5, Samuel said, “Here I am.”

Why was Samuel able to answer so quickly when he heard his name called in the middle of the night?

Because he felt safe.

This episode is much more than reading a story about a little boy who heard his name in the middle of the night. It became a reflection on trauma, nervous system healing, over giving, people pleasing, and learning to believe that God calls out our names not because we must earn His love, but because we are already His.

For most of my life, I thought my worth came from what I could provide for others.

But healing has taught me something different:

Now I’m learning that God was calling my name long before I ever felt safe enough to answer.
