011 - You Can't Park and Talk in France, Jump Numbers (An App for Young Children) and Can You Tell Me How to Get to Sesame Street?

Your App Lady  Show Notes Series 1 Episode 11 Welcome to series 1 episode 11 of the Your App Lady Podcast! All about apps and tech that I love and use every day. On each episode, I’ll talk about recent tech news, recommend apps that I use myself and leave you with a great tech tip. Tech News France’s highest court has ruled that drivers can no longer simply pull over to use their phones. Instead, they will have to park in a designated area, such as a garage or a private driveway, and turn off the vehicle’s engine, according to Gizmodo. The ruling came after a 2017 appeal where a driver protested a fine he received for using a phone while he was parked at a roundabout with hazard lights on. Under the new law, those who text in non-approved areas while in a vehicle will receive a fine of 135 euros ($166) and will receive three points on their driving license that will stay for three years. This is the same punishment currently given to those who use their phone while driving. The law does not apply to hands-free devices (but does restrict wireless headsets), and it makes exceptions for emergency calls, like being stranded on the side of the road. Tech Tip Here is another tip about using your Amazon Echo. If you want to use the kid skills with Alexa and the Echo, go to amazon.com and enable each app you want to use. A great example is Sesame Street. Hello, it’s Elmo! When children ask to “Open Sesame Street,” they’ll be able to speak directly to their furry red friend. Elmo's so excited! He can’t wait to share all the fun things he knows about the letter of the day. And Elmo's always up for a good game of Hide & Seek, with silly sounds as clues to where he’s hiding. Sesame Street encourages kids to engage in imaginative play, learn new words, and just be giggly together with the voice of a familiar, fun-loving friend.
