Hello again, It's McGinnis. Figured I better get back on here and take my medicine. Don’t want to be accused of hit and run! Thank you so much for the comments. All politics is personal –someone else said that, and I believe it. Let’s not forget how hard it is to put yourself out there, and how equally difficult it is to keep our passions in check—no matter what your views. Our patience wears thin—we get pissed—but we need to start listening better to each other, and keep listening.
We have to learn how to use this social media to it’s full potential. We gotta keep the pictures of kids and dogs and boats and what have you—but we can’t be afraid of political exchange to go along with that…mix it all into some gumbo. Hell this country got started in a bar and that was even before most of the Irish got here!
A major reason I wrote my first book—Tending To The Past (shameless plug, ha!), was to try to explain the importance of knowing our history and the dangers of not knowing it. With all humility, I believe what is happening between us right now is a symptom of our national amnesia…or maybe worse, our habit of cherry-picking the parts of history that serve us. We all do that, by the way.
So, I’m going to throw some stuff out there—a few things from previous videos and podcasts—but maybe they’ll seem more pertinent as we discover the context. If you don’t want to look at my face (that’s perfectly understandable), you can find me on my podcast: “Stories We Can Tell”
