In John chapter 16, Jesus gives his disciples a warning-Bad times are coming. But then he finishes by telling them that He has overcome the world. When someone comes against us or drags our name through the mud, it can hurt. But God knows the truth. Knowing that God knows can help us be patient and fight that desire to fight back and right what was wronged. It's hard, but when we let God fight our battles, we will always win.
