Today she welcomes, author Joe LeValley to the show to discuss his amazing journey of becoming a successful crime fiction author late in life. He began as a daily newspaper reporter, covering lots of crime cases including murders, which planted seeds in his mind about trying to write a crime novel. He then switched to working in communications in healthcare, but still writing in his free time, he decided to take a crack at that novel. Then children and job promotions came along, leaving the half-written novel collecting dust. But an idea for an amazing twist ending, and a snarky comment by a co-worker, spurred him on to finish it. The rest is history.

It took Joe 33 years to finish his first book, and just 33 days to write the next one. Both won awards and received glowing reviews, and his humble approach and advice to young authors is down to earth and simple – there is no one way to do it. He describes the origins of the main character of his stories, his night on stage with The Who, his advice on how to get yourself out of a slump, how to approach writing a book, and the night he made Bill Murray laugh.
