Session 1
The Heart of Spiritual Gifts: GRACE (charis, charisma)
The purpose of Spiritual Gifts: Service to the Lord and His Body
There are Motivation Gifts (Romans 12), Ministry Gifts (1 Corinthians 12, 14) and Office Gifts (Ephesians 4)
Romans 12: “Motivation” gifts (internal wiring – all believers are gifted (Romans 12:3 and Ephesians 4:7) and necessary for the Body to function properly!
Romans 12:6 – Prophecy: This gift is motivational, operational, and office appointed.
This gift may reveal something God is saying, doing, wants to do or has already done. (Prophecy is NOT “spiritual fortune telling”)
The bold speaking forth of God’s Word and message!
Prophecy is to be desired (I Corinthians 14:1)
Can give information on how a matter will arise or turn out (Acts 11:28; Acts 21:11) and sometimes an inherent warning.
This gift gives comfort and encouragement, loving correction, affirms direction. (1 Corinthians 14:3)
“Guardrails” for the prophetic gift
Prophetic words are NOT equal to Scripture’s authority and direction.
Prophetic voices are NOT to be given the place of the Spirit of God, Who is the Believers Teacher, Guide, and Source of Truth! (John 14 – John 16)
Tests For Trusting Prophecy
Does the message line up with properly contexted Scripture?
Does the message “bear witness” with the Holy Spirit’s witness in me?
Does the message stand the test of time?
Does the prophet walk in order, submission, accountability to spiritual oversight and order? (Will he/she listen to other’s “words”, admit it when mishearing, and stay in place of humble service?
(1 Corinthians 14:29-32; 1 Corinthians 14:40)
