There was once a family of pigs with three little piglets.
Rory was the youngest of the piglets.
He was also the messiest!
Rory was always happy when his dad asked him to help with the cooling.
He spilled flour everywhere and got butter on everything.
He ate potato peelings and even got stains on his shoes.
His dad didn’t mind too much.
When he was young, he did the same.
All little piglets like making a mess, everyone knows that!

Rory always raced to the bathroom when his mum told him to have a bath.
He loved filling the tub, making waves in the water and then spraying it, splashing it and spilling it over the edge.
His mum didn’t mind too much.
When she was young, she did the same.
All little pigs like making a mess, every knows that!

But school was starting in a week’s time.
Rory’s parents warned him, “You mustn’t make a mess at school, Rory.
Don’t flick mashed potato or roll around in the mud or lick your fingers or put them up your nose, or sniff and snort…
If you do, you’ll get into trouble. Do you understand?”
“Yes,” said Rory.

The first day of school arrived.
The whole family helped Rory to get ready.
He put on his smart red trousers and a jumper knitted by his granny,
With R for Rory on the front.
They took a picture before leaving.
When he was ready, his sister said, “Rory, you are the smartest little piglet!”
His dad, his mum and his big brother agreed.
Rory felt very happy.

On the way to school, his mum called, “Mind the puddle, Rory!”
His dad said, “Mind the mud!”
His sister said, “Don’t run your trotter along the wall, it’s dirty!”
Rory said, “Yeah, yeah, yeah!” because he was trying to be good.
But two seconds later he forgot.
Splish, splash!
Oops! He stepped in the mud… and got dirty and dusty all over.

So when Rory arrived at school, he was happy… but he was wet and smelly and muddy too.
His mum did her best to clean him up but it didn’t make much difference.
The other parents looked disgusted.
One mum held her nose and said, “There’s a funny smell around here!”
Another mum begged the teacher, “Please don’t put my little Flora next to that dirty little piglet!”
One shocked dad said, “Children should be clean when they come to school!”
Rory’s parents were upset.
They said, “Our Rory is a good boy. It’s not his fault if he gets dirty. That’s what little pigs do!”
Miss Horse was lovely and kind.
She knew lots and could explain things really well.
She said to the parents, “School is for all children, big ones, small ones, fat ones and thin ones. It’s for good children and naughty children, for quiet children and noisy children. So Rory is welcome here, just like the others.”
But while Miss Horse was talking, the children disappeared.
Everyone was worried.
The parents called, “Joey? Lisa? Maisie? Rory? Tim? Where are you?”

Suddenly there was the sound of laughter.
“It’s coming from the lunch hall!” said Miss Horse.
The children were all there.
They were all smeared in chocolate from head to toe.
They all looked as messy as little Rory because chocolate turns all children in to greedy, messy, little piglets!
Everyone knows that!

As the children had been found, the parents could go home.
Miss Horse said, “Right, since you are all messy already, guess what we are going to do now? Finger painting!”
“Hooray!” said Rory.
“I love finger painting!”
What fun they all had!

When they had finished, Miss Horse put all the paintings up on the wall.
She said, “They are all beautiful! Well done! But I think Rory’s is the best because he filled his paper with LOTS AND LOTS OF COLOURS!”
Rory was very happy.
You see, little pigs are like the rest of us.
They want to be loved just as they are.
Everyone knows that!
