Lance Askildson, Professor of Language and Linguistics at Chaminade University, helps us understand languages and linguistics in the world today, how they are coming together and how they are changing, and how it is becoming more important that we reach out to other cultures and learn languages other than English.  But what cultures and what languages should we study, and why, and how many of them.  For that, we have to anticipate geopolitical and demographic changes, and business and occupational requirements, now and going forward.  European languages, Asian languages, Middle Eastern languages, African languages?  The choices and the learning curves are challenging.
