Notoriously Episcopalian

‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

Listen Later

A sermon for the 23rd Sunday after Pentecost, October 31, 2021, at the Church of the Messiah in Heflin, Alabama.

Principal Text: Mark 12:28-34

“For me, Halloween isn’t so much about thin space that lets ghosts in, but it is about the thin space that it creates in communities. This is a time when we walk our neighborhoods and see and talk to our neighbors. It is a time when we gather for fall festivals or Trunk-or-Treats. It is a time where the isolation that seems to mark the age of computers and the internet is broken open as we dress up in costumes, and laugh, and eat way too much candy.”
