Listen Later

Episode 12 - In this episode of Pillow Talk With Bros, Joe and his guest, Michael Patrick Trimm, talk about male rites of passage, why they have disappeared, our own journey into manhood, and how the lack of these rites of passage affected us. They also tackle the question of whether men can only learn to be men from other men, and how learning to be men from boys their own age shaped their ideas of masculinity. They also ask each other whether nor not they feel like men have an extended period of adolescence in today's society, and if they feel like they are personally living in an extended period of their own adolescence.
They also talk about some of the rites of passage that have existed in the past from different cultures. Joe uses a great article from the Art of Manliness, and you can reference that here: https:// www.artofmanliness.com/articles/male-rites-of- passage-from-around-the-world/
If you'd like to read the books that Joe and Michael reference in this episode, Joe talked about the book, "Iron John: A Book About Men," by Robert Bly and Michael talked about, "The Power of Myth," by Joseph Campbell.
Drink of the Day- Joe is drinking an IPA from Brickway Brewing Company in Omaha, NE and Michael is drinking a Slightly Mighty Lo-Cal IPA from Dogfish Head Craft Brewery in Milton, Delaware. Check 'em out!!
