Behind the eighth commandment is the glorious fact that God owns everything: “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof” (Ps. 24:1). Made in His image, we are entrusted with little parts of this fullness and required to respect the parts that He entrusts to others. It’s God, not the state, who establishes private property, and we thrive under His blessing when we honor it.
