Starring Kevin Bacon and Amanda Seyfried, YOU SHOULD HAVE LEFT (2020) from director David Koepp is a revised version of the same-titled novel by Daniel Kehlmann, who also cowrote the screenplay for the film.
When wealthy and retired Theo (Bacon) and his up-and-coming actress wife Susanna (Seyfried) decide they need a break from their daily routines and distractions, they rent a beautiful property in the countryside of Wales, bringing along their young daughter Ella (Avery Tiiu Essex) for a picture-perfect family getaway. With hopes of repairing long-endured damage to their relationship, the billowing hillsides and fresh country air can't compete with the wedge that is firmly present between their marriage. Theo, desperate for connection and communication that is left unrequited finds himself regularly meditating while simultaneously losing hours of time in this not-so-simple getaway home. What will this deeply twisted tale reveal within with the walls of the Stetler property?
