Young Elder, a 19-year-old musician and activist from Baltimore, Maryland, tells us about her life growing up in her city among lots of violence – especially gun violence. We explore her own mental health journey, and the idea of community trauma – the kind of trauma in your environment that you can’t escape – and how it has impacted Young Elder and her peers.
We talk about
how community trauma has informed the work she is doing now as a member of the mayor’s trauma-informed task force, which is unlike anything happening anywhere else in America.
