This week in the Dads Toolbox we are bringing you Chris Farley Ratcliffe of Dad Goes Round to talk about an amazing new eBook that he has created entitled: Dad Guide: Your Daughter and her Period Chris Farley Ratcliffe has always been very open with our daughters about sexual health and taken a proactive approach. Even at a young age they read the Barenaked book, a book that allowed them to learn body parts. Thus, his daughters are fairly well educated about things. One day his daughter was in the feminine hygiene aisle and she was staring at things and she started to ask questions. At that time a simple answer sufficed, but he knew that this would not be the end so Chris ended up deciding to write his ebook to help himself and other dads that could assist them with questions and the conversation with their own daughters. The book is very extensive and open to dads so that they can understand all aspects. Chris Farley Ratcliffe was a sexual health educator in the past o he was able to bring in his background into the book to make it even more robust. The only area that he really had to do more research was in the products themselves. Most dads were like Chris from the past when they were sent to the store for products, as he put it, on a hunting and gathering mission, instead of really understanding what the products are and why they are used. The book allows dads to better understand the products as well as the female anatomy and reproductive system and why and how menstruation works. He also considered the social context for how women experience their periods. Many dads see this area of education as taboo. Many mothers do not educate their sons about periods and conversations usually occur between mother and daughter. Thus , many dads do not have the experience or opportunity to talk to their daughters about this. This stigma around this is not new, but has been around for hundreds, if not thousands of years. Sometimes there is even some that feel that the more information that is shared can lead to more promiscuity, but there is no research that truly can substantiate this, instead it is the opposite.
