Spiritual maturity does not come automatically. You have to know who you are in Christ Jesus first.

2 Peter 1:4 tells us that, "Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires."

We have a divine nature within us that must be developed and brought out. This nature is how God now sees us in Christ. It is up to us to choose to live by this nature.
