We admire Christian missionaries who go to far away places to share the Good News. I do. They are my heroes. But for you, the best place to start sharing the Gospel might be in your own neighborhood. The reason is, over the years, we develop relationships with our neighbors.
My wife, Pat, and I have watched our neighbors’ families grow up, and our neighbors have seen my family grow. Being so close to neighbors allows us to demonstrate Christ in our behavior, but it’s crucial that we follow up our behavior with real conversations about Jesus. Some ideas for reaching your neighborhood might include hosting a neighborhood block party (we do that in our neighborhood), distributing homemade gifts to neighbors at Christmas time with a card that points to Christ. Sending a birthday card or gift, or simply inviting neighbors over for dinner and having intentional conversation about Jesus.
The Bible says in John 13:34, “A new commandment I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so also you must love one another.” Let’s show love to our neighbors by opening the door for a conversation about Jesus. This is Luis Palau.
