As a Christian woman, God created you for a big life. He fulfills the deep “desires of our hearts” (Ps. 37:4b)—and He does it by turning our small desires upside down and sideways.

010: When Asking God for Guidance Is the Wrong Question

You’ve prayed. You’ve asked God what to do. The decision matters—and you need an answer.

And you hear crickets.

What if God isn’t silent? What if He’s answering a question you didn’t know you needed to ask?

In this episode, we look at Elijah’s encounter with God in 1 Kings 19 and what it teaches us about seeking guidance. Sometimes before God gives us the answer we desperately want, He invites us to become quiet enough to hear what He wants us to know first.

We’ll explore why relationship comes before guidance, what biblical listening to God can look like, and how practices such as Scripture meditation, lectio divina, silence, and imaging prayer can help us become attentive to the Holy Spirit.

Because before the gift, there is the Giver.

Did you ever have a time when you really thought you couldn't believe anymore? And then God brought you back--but that time happened and you'll never forget it. 

Some doubting believers who think God is judging them feel oppressed. Some are angry with God and don't know how they can trust Him. Still others come to doubt the Lord and salvation history. 

Wherever your critical doubts led you, the story of how God brought you back is important. This is my story: how I wasn't sure Christianity made sense anymore, and how the Lord reminded me of two things: a miracle in my past, and a defense of the faith by C.S. Lewis in my present. 35 years later, my faith never wavered again. But I'm grateful for that time of darkness and doubt, because I can always call on it... and remember the truth of Who He is.

The Lord has a big voice. We can hear Him in the Bible and prayer because He wants us to... but that's not the only way He speaks to us. 

The Bible is full of dreams and visions, and in Acts, Peter even quotes Joel: "'I will pour out my Spirit on all people...'" Don't miss what He tells you when He uses the imagination that HE created in you, to speak to you in the dreams and visions like we read in the Bible.
