God's people have a history of forgetting Him even after He redeemed them. The prophets spoke of this as walking in darkness, and God's judgment rightly came upon them repeatedly for it. However, Zechariah realized that God was doing something unique, not ultimately through his son, but through God's. For the first time, a light was dawning that would never be put out.
