We often get into our daily routines and forget about what’s going on around us. Sometimes we need to slow down, reflect and regroup before moving on. It’s like spinning in a hamster-wheel and getting nowhere.


This is why it is important to set regular breakpoints throughout our day, week and month. It doesn’t have to be a great amount of time, but just enough to run through a mental checklist. Each person’s checklist will be different but it should consist of the following topics.


  • Health and well-being:
    • Physical and mental health, self-care, exercise, nutrition, sleep, and stress management.
    • Keeping yourself physically fit and well rested, will support all your other activities and it is the most important.

      • Personal values and beliefs:
        • Identifying one’s core values, beliefs, spirituality, and finding meaning and purpose in life
        • This will ensure that you continue to align yourself with who you are and not compromise.

          • Goal setting and achievement:
            • Setting and pursuing personal and professional goals, setting short-term and long-term planning, and self-improvement
            • Keeping yourself on track with your goals will allow you to achieve everything you want.

              • Emotional intelligence:            
                • Understanding and managing emotions, empathy, self-awareness, and building healthy emotional relationships
                • Keeping our emotions in check is very important to support our mental health and overall well-being.

                  • Personal fulfillment and happiness:
                    • Cultivating happiness, self-acceptance, self-esteem, gratitude, and finding joy and fulfillment in everyday life experiences.
                    • Creating an atmosphere that promotes happiness in our life will bring constant joy and promote motivation for all other life activities.

                    • Remember, this checklist is just one example, yours may look totally different. The important thing is that you check in with yourself regularly and ensure that your are moving in the right direction for you.
