As Saturday, January 3, bloomed into daylight, many Americans woke to discover that the mock “TEAM AMERICA” of puppet-movie theatrics, that spoof of American soldiers, tax cash, debt, and corporations policing the world, was, again, being reflected to tragic degrees in Venezuela.

Of course, not long ago, Donald Trump the non-Prez told Americans that he and the American people were tired of “regime change” - here are a couple examples of that forgotten position. LINK and LINK.

Yet, this year, he has bombed seven nations, as noted by AntiWar. He, and his complicit underlings, have killed nearly 100 people in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific, offering spurious and insulting rationales such as “combating” their invented, meaningless bogeyman of “narco-terror.” Not only has the argument not aligned with facts about the Maduro regime and drugs, but also, even IF the Maduro Administration were directly involved with trafficking every speck of fentanyl or some other terrible drug, Trump’s US Constitution has not been amended to give him “authority” to block people from selling, buying, using, or possessing it. And even IF the Constitution were amended to allow him to act against those activities, the Constitution has no authority over you or me, and it is not a magical talisman that can confer legitimate “authority” over anyone. The only people who are supposed to abide by it are the politicians who take the illegitimate seats of power over us that it created.

So, Trump ordered this attack. And, as he got closer to January 3, he revealed that this was not about drugs, as he had claimed, but was about oil and resources. So, where did this US thirst for Venezuelan oil begin?…

We can go as far back as the days of wickedness fueled by Harry Truman…

After Venezuela supplied the US military with oil for its Navy in World War Two, and this oil provision actually provoked German Nazi Navy ships to carry out sabotage operations off its coast, Truman oversaw a coup in Venezuela, and Venezuela saw the installation of its first pro-US dictator, Marcos Perez Jimenez (1948 to 1958). Following that, there were numerous efforts by the U.S. to prevent Venezuela from benefiting from its own natural resources (over which its government gained US-free control in ‘58, and the US and UK have been meddling there ever since, so this is a continuation of that back-and-forth struggle).

Maduro was not a totalitarian dictator, though some in the US Administration have tried to depict him as such. That would be the US regime, which, of course, currently is the one that kidnaps people and flies them to Salvadoran prisons sans Due Process, the one that drone killed over 100 in the open sea in just a few months time, that hit Somalia with over 100 attacks this year, and continued to supply genocidal Israeli forces with arms…

But, lest we digress, here is more of the Venezuela story:

The Venezuelan ruling system, i.e. the party that Maduro represented, is nicknamed “Chavismo” (being the supporters of Hugo Chavez), and that movement has ruled Venezuela for over 20 years. Curiously, even with Maduro out, it is firmly in place in the streets and in the military. And so it’s not precisely a regime change that has taken place here. It’s more of a shuffling of the Chavismo deck.

Which raises the questions: how was this allowed to happen and who had an interest in getting Maduro out of the picture?

Those, like most of us, looking at Venezuela from the outside likely would benefit from understanding that there are many factions and interests at play, even within a political movement such as Chavismo. In fact, this overthrow seems similar to the Syria universe of chaos and debris, where, when Syria fell last year, it was not at the nation-state’s worst moment, and now, it is in worse shape. The same seems likely with Venezuela’s change. The country had much greater economic troubles from 2016 through 2019 (about which I wrote for MRCTV on a few occasions).

What plays out now is the dirty war, the financial war, and what could become very chaotic. There are many interests at play here, and the United States under Trump wants to exploit a new, very tricky situation.

Some observers, such as Max Blumenthal, have speculated that Trump wanted as strong a form of control as he could get without a full-blown war, which he could not win. He wanted Maduro taken out for personal reasons and, likely, to make sure that he could install a much more puppet-like character who would not change direction once oil and mineral “agreements” were made.

Numerous observers (such as Max and his sources) noted that Trump did not take Maria Corina Machado (Ms. “Peace Prize Winner” who supports Israel’s genocide and supported a military attack on Venezuela) seriously and was, therefore, determined to force a managed coup or a deal to replace Maduro with someone inside the Chavista camp. This would allow Trump to get the oil and minerals, while keeping the pro-Chavista military in line, tamping down violence.

So, perhaps Trump’s gang thought that they needed someone other than Machado, some kind of more moderate figure from within the Chavista realm. And such a figure has to get the support of Diosdado Cabello, who was in the Maduro administration as Minister of Interior, and also was the Minister of Justice and Peace, and holds sway among the military.

Multiple US sources told Max over the holidays that the Trump administration was not serious about installing Maria Corina Machado and, instead, proposed a deal in which Maduro would leave and agree to be replaced with VP Delcy Rodriguez. This now appears to be what Venezuela got by force… Although, in addition to agreeing with Max and Anya saying that the case against Maduro should be dismissed, Scott Ritter wonders about the fact that Venezuelan forces seemed to stand down and Maduro was apprehended without a fight. “There’s an element of collaboration here, with Maduro. This went down too easily…” - See his comment to the Judge, here:

Curiously, Trump told the press today that Marco Rubio had been talking to VP Rodriguez and that in Trump’s words, “she’ll do whatever we want.” How does one interpret all of this?

Well, right now, we have Delcy and her brother, Jorge Rodriguez (National Assembly President). They are a power faction that appears to be the “ready player.”

And then you have Diosdado Cabello, who has massive support within the military and the colectivos, who are a form of semi-organized militant supporters in the streets. Cabello had been out in the street with armed men, ready to fight the US invaders. Now, more likely, they will be police to help back the temporary regime of Rodriguez, who has not yet been sworn in as president.

She Saturday announced full national mobilization — militants in the streets, armed forces deployed nationwide — per contingency orders Maduro had previously issued.

Invoking Bolívar and Chávez, she framed the US attack as violating Articles 1 and 2 of the UN Charter, called the blockade and strikes "crimes against humanity," and warned the region: "What they did to Venezuela today, they can do to anyone."

She and her brother (who once was communications minister as well) are the children of Jorge Antonio Rodriguez, who was tortured to death in the Fourth Republic. And THAT lasted from 1958 to 1999. This era began after the overthrow of dictator Marcos Pérez Jiménez and ended with the adoption of a new constitution under Hugo Chávez, which established the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

The elder Rodriguez was leader of “Liga Socialista” (the Socialist League), and was killed on July 25, 1976. He had been arrested on July 23, 1976, by agents of the DISIP (Venezuela’s intelligence service at the time) in connection with the kidnapping of American executive William Niehous. He died two days later in custody from severe torture, which caused a heart attack and extensive internal injuries. This occurred under the Acción Democrática government, of Carlos Andres Perez, a close friend of forces within, of all things, the IMF, which wanted to neutralize the socialist left, and keep corporate ties to oil and minerals installed in Venezuela. Over a thousand people tied to Rodriguez were killed.

As Max Blumenthal noted in a recent “GrayZone” stream, when he interviewed Delcy:

“I asked her about it at the end of our interview, which mostly focused on economic and hybrid warfare on Venezuela and how they were responding, how they were dealing with COVID, et cetera. And she got very emotional. So the question is: If Delcy Rodriguez is going to be president for now, is she going to maintain the Chavista character economically, politically, ideologically of a government that has just been not decapitated, but seen its leadership now absconded, kidnapped, abused by the US regime… Can we assume that Chavismo is still in effect? And where does Rubio go with that? Chavismo is still in power.”
