Welcome, fellow Conspirators!

Though it might not resonate with all of you, as we prepare this Assembly, the DAMNED, the first British punk band to release a single (“NEW ROSE”), the first to release an album, (“Damned, Damned, Damned”) and the first to go on tour (they always thank Marc Bolan for asking them to accompany him on tour), yes, THE DAMNED, are playing Wembley Arena, in London for their 50th Anniversary! They are stronger than ever, with some of the best musicality of any rock bands ever to record or take the stage, and they are true, honest, good guys. The current lineup, Captain Sensible on guitar, Paul Gray on bass, Monty the Oxymoron on keys, Dave Vanian vocals, and the reunited Rat Scabies on drums represents a group of friends who now stand astride the music world like a colossus, yet they are humble men, just plying their craft, seemingly happiest to see the good people who enjoy their work and the fact that they can make music they love. I had a chance to attend the show, but had to forgo. That could be seen as disappointing, but, in a way, knowing that life hands you limitations sometimes is a very grounding thing, and makes me appreciate even more my friendship with the Captain, and acquaintance with Dave and Monty. By the way, Paul is a cancer survivor, many years on. He got treatment in a hospital in Wales, and while he was there, he met Bryn Merrick, also a one-time bass player of the Damned. Bryn, also, was undergoing treatment, and the two became good friends. Sadly, Bryn passed at the age of 56, but Paul survived, overcame debilitating tinnitus (thanks to special equipment that helps) and is back with the band and also offering services as a session bassist in the free time he might have when not touring or recording. Here is a sample of what it is like to see the band play, a pair of clips taken in 2024 in Boston, when I got to see them. The first song is Curtain Call, and we come in after it’s started (the recorded version is 20 minutes long and takes one side of a vinyl LP, and it’s amazing!) just recall these lyrics, if you ever get downhearted. This is a song about not giving up on life…

tragedy, love all
lie within…
each player takes his chance to play
lives to fight
another day!”
This isn’t the best audio quality, but as the band gets into the rip-roaring upping of the tempo, you can see the start of the mosh, getting it on!

And here, you will see Rat Scabies, one of the best drummers of all time, finishing his solo bridge between an earlier song and “New Rose”, and, again, the crowd erupts. Rat is 70, I believe.

And here is a full concert, a specially themed Halloween show they did a few years ago when Pinch was drumming (Pinch also is a great guy) and it was called “Night of A Thousand Vampires”. Dave V’s daughter appears near the close, playing violin. :) Great show!

BREAKING - Al Jazeera reports that JD Vance says he is returning to the US “without a deal” w Iran. (This links to the A-J live updates) LINK BUT, Reuters reports that the negotiators said “Talks will continue…” and they have a “framework” LINK MORE

-Yet, if one looks closely at Vance’s statement, one sees that it was not a “netogiation”, he gave Iran an ultimatum.

-At the same time we see that, Reuters and RT report that the US govt has agreed to expand on what Trump claimed was one of Obama’s big mistakes in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), that being the RETURN of Iranian funds the US stole in the 1970s and had put in escrow in other national banks. Trump claimed it was a “bad deal” and MAGA maniacs have excoriated Obama for “paying Iran billions” - yet it’s Iranian money, and noooowwww, the Trump Admin is continuing and expanding on the Obama-era agreement. This was one of the prerequisites of any opening for negotiations that the Iranians demanded before they would engage JD and the Jets in Pakistan. -BUT, the other portion of the two prerequisites from Iran — that Israel cease its attacks on Lebanon? Not happening.

WORLD ECONOMY

THE GCC i.e. The Gulf Cooperation Council is hurting because of the Iranian response to the US aggression. In the past month (roughly March 2026, as of mid-April 2026 data), GCC exports of oil and natural gas have declined sharply—in many cases by 50–99%—due to the escalation of the US-Israel-Iran conflict. This caused the effective closure (or near-total disruption) of the Strait of Hormuz, the critical chokepoint through which most GCC oil and LNG exports normally flow (accounting for ~20% of global oil trade and a large share of LNG). LINK For example… Saudi Arabia crude exports down ~52%; Kuwait down ~72%. Iraq (not GCC but often grouped in regional data) saw even steeper drops. Overall Saudi crude exports for the full month of March were reported down 26% year-on-year to ~4.39 million bpd. LINK

US EEEEK!-ONOMY

As we discussed on Friday’s Liberty Conspiracy Live, consumer confidence is the lowest it has been since the measurement was created in the 1950s:

As the reality hits, some of us in libertarian circles have been discussing the poisonous mix of tariffs, regulations, fascist government arrangements, Trump blockages of Russian fuel imports, and mounting warfare and debt. The mix bringing about trouble for US businesses. Here is one of the sectors the populists oft say “tariffs will help”. Those populists either don’t understand basic economics (that, written not to deride, but simply as a descriptive, because awareness of the destructive nature of tariffs is part of basic economics classes), or they do, and the are trying to cater to special interests who don’t want the foreign competition.

Hmmm. How can this be?

And… Of COURSE Trump wants lower interest rates, but with GDP sinking, and the dollar sinking, he has to offer HIGHER rates of return for US long-term bonds, which, of course, raises the amount the US owes in the long term… And if the Federal Reserve buys the bonds, that increases the volume of money, ie it inflates the money supply, pushing up prices, causing malinvestments, and leading to a deeper crash/liquidation. What a mess.

Regardless of how one feels about this issue, the lesson is to stop forcing people to pay for an “education” system run by the polis. The Lifesite headline might inspire some hearty agreement, might inspire others to think it’s inflammatory. That is not the core of the issue, of course.
