Disciples Who Multiply: Equipping Others to Make Disciples

We discuss the importance of discipleship that multiplies, focusing on key scriptures from Second Timothy and Ephesians. We explore four key points: entrusting truth to faithful people, extending Christ's kingdom rather than our own influence, recognizing every disciple's gifts in the body of Christ, and remaining humble as God produces spiritual fruit. We also pose a discussion question about the difference between helping someone and equipping them to help others.

We pray for faithfulness, multiplication, and lasting fruit in our lives and ministry. We ask God to make us faithful disciples, to teach us to sow generously and patiently, and to use our lives to multiply disciples who follow Jesus wholeheartedly. We seek grace to remain in Him when the work feels slow or unseen, and we ask for fruit that endures—lives changed, communities strengthened, and generations awakened to follow Him.

Becoming Disciples Who Make Disciples

Scripture Reflection: Disciple-making does not begin with a strategy—it begins with following Jesus.

Before we can lead others, we must remain close to Him. Jesus said:

“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”  

—John 15:4–5 (ESV)

Fruitful disciples are formed in His presence. We receive strength and grace from Christ, then faithfully pass on what He has entrusted to us:

“You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.”

Jesus calls us not merely to share a moment of faith, but to make disciples—people who follow Him, grow in His truth, and live in obedience to His Word. This mission begins wherever we are—our “Jerusalem”—and extends through every boundary to the ends of the earth. We do not go in our own strength: Christ has all authority, the Holy Spirit gives us power, and Jesus promises His presence with us always. The call is clear: go, witness, baptize, teach, and lovingly lead others into a life surrendered to Jesus.[10]

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. Paul is reminding us-what we do for God has eternal weight. Even if nobody claps for you on earth, heaven is standing and applauding.”
