Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar

In this episode, I share a haunting Arch Oboler radio drama about two sophisticated partygoers, Carl and Linda, who slip away from a crowded seaside gathering for a walk on the beach. What begins as witty sparring about society, ambition, and the lives they have chosen turns unnerving when they encounter an old man silently writing names in the sand. As the night deepens, the pair become convinced that the names—and the dates beside them—foretell their deaths, forcing them to confront fear, mortality, and the hollowness of the lives they have been sleepwalking through.

What makes this story so memorable is the way its eerie mystery gives way to something unexpectedly intimate and philosophical. Faced with the possibility that their time is limited, Carl and Linda begin to see life with sudden clarity: the love they have postponed, the freedom they have denied themselves, and the urgency of living honestly while there is still time. It’s a suspenseful, atmospheric piece that turns into a moving reflection on how the nearness of death can finally teach us how to live.

In this thrilling episode of "Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar," our favorite freelance insurance investigator, Johnny Dollar, embarks on a high-stakes mission involving a hidden stash of $100,000 from a decade-old safe-cracking job. The episode kicks off with a mysterious call from George Hardy at Northeast Indemnity Association, hinting at a potential commission for Johnny if he can unravel the mystery.

Johnny's investigation leads him to the state prison, where he meets Turner McGaffey, a dying convict who reveals crucial information about the hidden loot and a potential murder plot. McGaffey's dying wish is for Johnny to protect Joe Pirelli, an old accomplice, from Danny Russeloff, a dangerous criminal recently released on parole.

As Johnny races against time, he navigates through a web of deceit and danger, ultimately confronting Danny in a tense showdown involving nitroglycerin. The episode is packed with suspense, unexpected twists, and a dramatic conclusion that leaves Johnny narrowly escaping death.

Join Johnny Dollar as he pieces together the clues, faces life-threatening challenges, and ultimately ensures justice is served in this action-packed adventure.
