In this podcast I have a conversation on youth and agriculture with Wandile Sihlobo, an agricultural economist with the Agriculture Business Chamber and Mpumelelo Mkhabela who is an academic with the Department of Political Sciences at the University of Pretoria. We look at why young people are absent in agricultural enterprises, examine barriers to entry, and explore opportunities presented by new technologies, broadly referred to as Agtech. We look beyond the current challenges and reflect on solutions that might work in encouraging greater youth participation in the agriculture sector.
