Burgemeester Gilbert Isabella van Houten heeft een overeenkomst gesloten met Meld Misdaad Anoniem. Via dit lijntje ontvangt de burgemeester anonieme informatie. Het gaat hier niet om de politie. Op de gemeentepagina in de krant roept hij iedereen op om meldingen te doen. Zaterdag bij het boodschappen doen las ik de oproep opnieuw op de lichtkrant op het plein: “Blijf meldingen doen, meld misdaad anoniem”. De oproep van de burgemeester luidt niet: let op elkaar, bel bij onraad de politie. Maar: verlink elkaar en blijf dat vooral stiekem doen. Stop daarmee, burgemeester, u maakt mij bang.

The original song is called ‘I’ll Never Find Another You’ by an Australian folk group called The Seekers. The single was released in 1964 and became a number one hit song in the United Kingdom in 1965. Already in 1964 a Dutch group called The Shepherds came out with a cover song: Mensen zoals wij (People like us). 

In the Dutch part of the introduction I explain how I heard the Dutch version for the first time in 1971 during a weekend training as a boy scout leader, when someone came up with the meditative song of The Shepherds, that we sang together during the Sunday morning service. After the love song of The Seekers I sing the Dutch version of The Shepherds, called ‘People like us’. All over the world there are people like us, who wish the same as we do, that is to live in peace. Every country has borders, which might give us the idea that on the other side people are completely different, but they are not. When we want to see our children happy, we must make sure that our future world will be less divided than today and lives in peace. (You can read the full text of the introduction at my blog/vlog.)

In de inleiding in de video maak ik een vergissing. Ik associeer "trève" met "rève", droom, maar "trève" betekent "wapenstilstand". "C'est l'historie d'une trève": dit is het verhaal van een (kerst)bestand. De trèvezaal aan het Binnenhof in Den Haag, waar de ministerraad vergadert, refereert aan het Twaalfjarig Bestand (1609-1621), omdat de onderhandelingen daarvoor tussen de Nederlanden en Spanje hier plaatsvonden.
