Dr. Yuan Ren is Professor of Demography and Urban Studies at Fudan University in Shanghai. He is a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at Brown University. Dr. Ren spoke at Trinity College as part of the Center for Urban and Global Studies Global Vantage Point Series. His talk, "Soft Welfare vs. Hard Welfare: Factors in Migrants' Subjective Well-Being in Urban China and Social Policy Implications" examines the understudied and less understood dimension of rural migrant satisfaction and perception in China's cities.
