By now, we all know that online identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in the world. It is made easier by a couple of factors: malware, phishing and common passwords. The junction of these issues is where the YubiKey from Yubico comes in. This USB and NFC device allows you to secure your online presence on your computer and smartphone with even less work than is required to give it all away.
Using the YubiKey as your authentication method means that a new, secure password is created and set every time you sign in to one of its connected services. This means you cannot accidentally give the password away and no one can try and trick you into giving it to them. Even if you were to authenticate it once, it would be replaced immediately.
In addition, it requires that you have the physical key and a PIN to access, so even if the key is stolen, it will still be difficult to access your online accounts.
