There was a man in Jericho named Zacchaeus who was the chief tax collector and rich, but also short in stature.  His shortness in stature was not just indicative of his height but indicative of a more common experience of feeling “short” and inadequate.  And like Zacchaeus, we all feel short in some ways and put on masks to cover ourselves.  How Jesus welcomes and responds to Zacchaeus tells us so much of how we are known and loved by God.
