Zambian police yesterday (Sunday) appealed to citizens not to protest on the streets as the votes are counted in the presidential elections - where opposition leader, Hakainde Hichilema has taken an early lead. Zambians went to the polls on Thursday. There have been several incidents of violence and disturbances around the elections. President Edgar Lungu who is trailing Hichilema claimed the elections were not free or fair as it emerged that the opposition leader was leading in early counting. He is running for a third term. This then takes back to that question of why African presidents seem to have a problem in letting go of power. What is it about them?
