I started doing triathlons(トライアスロンを始めた) to raise money(資金調達のため) for Practice Makes Perfect(プロジェクト名). Practice Makes Perfect is an educational organization(教育団体) that partners with K-12 schools(小中高と協力して) to help students close that achievement(生徒の学力差を縮める) or opportunity gap(教育の機会を平等に). One of the startling statistics(驚くべきデータ) I ran across(私が出会った) says that only 10%(わずか10%) of first-generation college students(家族初の大学進学ケース) graduated over six years(6年かけて卒業). It was the kids I grew up with(ともに育った友達の話), it was my siblings(兄弟の話) and it was my story.(私自身の話) That lack of justice(不公平さ) really fueled my desire(思いを熱くさせた) to want to give back(恩返し) and do something for my own community(私を育ててくれた地域への貢献).
