Zechariah bursts forth into joyful praise after the birth of John, because he knows that his child will be called "the prophet of the Most High" and will prepare the way of the Lord. At last redemption for God's people is at hand and the Lord himself will visit them from on high. Is Jesus the joy of our longing hearts, as it was for Zechariah? Are we filled with thankfulness at his coming?
