Welcome to the Show

Good day and welcome to this week’s episode of the Nursing Show podcast for nurses, by nurses. I’m your host Jamie Davis and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for checking out the show this week. First up, in this week’s nursing news items, we look at three stories where nurses show up in the news and how they affect the public perceptions of what we do, both in good and bad ways.

Then in this week’s special urgent tip segment, I have a special update on the Zika virus with Columbia University virologist Vincent Racaniello. Vince, Disaster Podcast host Sam Bradley and I chat about this important current news topic and learn more about what the Zika virus really means for us in healthcare. We’ll have that and more later in this episode after the news.

If you want to get back in touch with me, please drop me an email. You can send those e-mails in to [email protected]. I love to hear from you and I make sure I respond back to every email that comes in. Send me links to news items you’d like me to cover, interview suggestions with you or somebody you know.

Tip of the Week – Zika Virus with Dr. Vincent Racaniello, PhD.

Whenever I have a concern about viruses in the news, I turn to one special expert in the field, Vincent Racaniello. Vince is not just a professor of virology and microbiology at Columbia University in New York, he’s also a longtime podcasting pal of mine with his numerous podcasts on the topic area. From This Week in Virology and This Week in Parasitism to his other shows on infectious diseases, he is the go-to source for me when it comes to interesting and dangerous viral outbreaks around the world.

This week we are talking about the recent Zika virus outbreak in South America and beyond. I had Vincent on a recent segment I recorded for both this show and the DisasterPodcast.com.
