The ZKM | Institute for Visual Media provides an innovative environment for research, development and artistic production on the interface of digital art and information technology. One of the core areas of the institute’s research and development is in the further development of new visual technologies. Recently occupying the foreground of research are the immersive projection environments in the context of which innovative hardware and software solutions for artistic and scientific projects have been developed. As a competence center for digital visual technology, the institute works with guest artists and international culture and research institutions on projects of socio-cultural, scientific and economic significance.///

Das ZKM | Institut für Bildmedien bietet ein innovatives Umfeld für Forschung, Entwicklung und künstlerische Produktion an der Schnittstelle von digitaler Kunst und Informationstechnologie. Ein Schwerpunkt der Forschungs- und Entwicklungsarbeit des Instituts liegt in der Weiterentwicklung neuer Bildtechnologien. Zuletzt standen immersive Projektionsenvironments, in dessen Rahmen innovative Hardware- und Softwarelösungen für künstlerische und wissenschaftliche Projekte entwickelt wurden, im Vordergrund. Als Kompetenzzentrum für digitale Bildtechnologien arbeitet das Institut mit Gastkünstlern und internationalen Kultur- und Forschungseinrichtungen gemeinsam an Projekten von soziokultureller, wissenschaftlicher und wirtschaftlicher Bedeutung.
