1 Sam 28 3-25 Zombies and Witches

Samuel dies, Israel buries him, Saul kicks all

the witches out of the land. Israel sets up for war with the Philistines, but

when he sees the battle, he is afraid, Inquires of God, God doesn’t answer, so

Saul Goes to a Medium (sorcerer).  Find

one at Endor. He goes in Disguise to her, and she even tells Saul that she

shouldn’t be doing this. Saul says she’ll be fine. Saul asks for her to bring

up Samuel.  Samuel shows up ,she screams

and realizes that the man in disguise is Saul and the Spirit is Samuel. Samuel

is upset that he’s been brought back from the Dead. Saul says he’s afraid

because of the war, God isn’t talking, so he brought him up. He tells him him

and his sons are going to die in battle tomorrow because of his disobedience,

and Israel is going to lose the battle.  The woman offers some bread, Saul reluctantly

eats it and him and his companions leave.

I want to focus on the medium and Saul because it’s the most important part of the story

This is a very difficult passage of scripture

for two reasons

It brings up a dead spirit ( I thought dead people were dead)Was it Samuel or the devil? Was it an apparition or was it real?Remember-  Moses and Elijah were at the resurrection - Luke 9:29-30, Mt 17:1-3, Mark 9:3-4 Mk9:3-4His clothes became shining, exceedingly white, like snow,such as no launderer on earth can whiten them.And Elijah appeared to them with Moses,and they were talking with Jesus.Saints came out of their graves at the resurrection- READ Matt 27:51-53This isnt the only story of someone appearing after death. It is very rare in the Bible- but it has happened- we cannot discount this story just because its exceptional- Dead come alive! And of course- Jesus himself came back from the grave- A real bodily form- not a spiritIn Luke 24:36-43 Jesus appeared to the disciples and ate honeycomb and fish! We can’t discount this as weirdness- People come back from the grave! It’s a promise!John 5:28-29 Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice 29 and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.Coming back from the dead shouldn’t surprise you- it should encourage you! Its Real!

And Leviticus 20:7So to some readers, it may appear that God uses a sorcerer and sorcery to accomplish thisBut God is not Using the Occult in this instance- HE brings up Samuel IN SPITE of the medium, not BECAUSE of the Medium- God will use whatever means he needs to accomplish his willGod had stopped talking to Saul because Saul had turned from God- he was DONE with himWhat is REALLY going on here? One- Saul is under JUDGMENT by GOD- and this is the culmination of his judgment1 Sa 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.
