Zootopia 2 - is this a great sequel?
It's astonishing to realize that nine years have passed since the original, but we finally have a long-awaited sequel to one of my all-time favorite films and the wait was definitely worthwhile. We received another flawless movie that seamlessly continues the narrative, broadening the universe with new worlds and characters, while once again exploring significant themes such as prejudice and bias, social divisions, community trust and policing, diversity and inclusion, cooperation, misinformation and media influence, personal growth and identity, as well as political and societal change. All of this is conveyed through exceptional writing filled with humor, adventure, action, mystery, unexpected twists, emotional moments, and much more. You nearly forget you're watching an animated Flixtor movie because everything is executed so flawlessly.
In this installment, there's even more humor, but it's crafted so cleverly that the film perfectly strikes a balance between being an animated feature for children and equally appealing to adults, with brilliant puns and clever pop-culture references—even nods to other Disney films and cult classics. The animation is breathtaking in every aspect, and you can clearly understand why the nine-year wait was necessary. Nothing feels less than perfect—from the visuals, cinematography, character and set design, and world-building, to the performances, sound, and score. We even get another amazing theme song from Shakira, which surpasses the first.
The new characters are just as unforgettable and iconic, and everyone returning truly shines. You exit the theater feeling joyful, satisfied, and even more connected to these characters and this world—and, based on the after-credits scene, eager for more stories. Hopefully, we won't have to endure another nine-year wait! And when Oscar season comes around, it's hard to envision this film not winning at least the Best Animated Feature award.
