We are in week 3 of a 6-week series called, Returning to the Promise. In this series, we will explore stories from the Old Testament. This week, we look at the story of Joseph. For some of us we are familiar with Joseph and his coat of many colors. So how is this story of Joseph being left for dead, a story about God’s promise?
We are in week 2 of a 6-week series called, Returning to the Promise. In this series, we will explore stories from the Old Testament. This week, we look at the story of Abraham, who is known as the Father of the Jewish, Christian, and Islamic faiths. In this story, we move from stories about the world to stories about an individual family and its descendants.
The faith to which Abraham is called is not a peaceful, pious acceptance, contrary to what we might believe. It is a hard-fought and deeply argued conviction. Abraham is not a passive recipient of the promise. Despite his laments and fear, God calls Abraham to live as creatures of hope even when in a hopeless situation. How do you live in hope despite what you feel is a hopeless situation? How do you hear God’s promises?
In this new series, Returning to the Promise, we explore stories from the Old Testament. This week, we look at the story of Creation and what people often to refer to as The Fall, when sin entered into the world. Often, we are taught to associate these stories with authority, superiority, and judgment. But is that how God wants us to see the world and participate in it? What does it mean to be a co-creator with God? And what really happened that day in the Garden of Eden when Eve and Adam ate the fruit?
We are beginning a new series this week called, “Returning to the Promise.” In this "Gathered and Sent" podcast, we discuss what it means to say God is love and how we are called to be a part of God’s ongoing creative work of love in this world. In this time of pandemic, protests, polarization, and unprecedented and unpredictable natural disasters, how do we live out God’s love in our life and share that with others? And we explore the ultimate question, “Does God exist separate from love?”
