  • Critical Q&A #196

The weekly show where I answer viewer questions based on what is left for me in the comment sections of my Q&A shows or by email at [email protected]. This week, the questions I answer are:

    (1) Watching the Aftermath show and all of the various podcasts, there is a cry for the government to step in and do something. Other than revoking the religious tax exemption, would a raid on Gold, for example, be helpful in your opinion? I remember Tom DeVocht saying that one reason the FBI didn’t do it before is because he felt that all the sea org members, including those in the hole, would just say they were there voluntarily and would not choose to leave. Do you believe that this is still the case?

    (2) What is Scientology’s explanation of why do people have to pay to find out all the great knowledge. Couldn’t someone get together with an auditor that would like to donate their services and go up the bridge the same?

    (3) How did Scientology management respond to public about Debbie Cook’s letter and it’s references to Hubbard?

    (4) If David Miscavige were to go to prison for any reason, do you think he has a strong enough understanding of brainwashing to have some of the other inmates work as security detail for him and some to clean his cell and maybe others to get chow for him?

    (5) How do Scientologists handle work and a declared SP? What happens when a Scientologist has a job where they need to talk or work closely with someone that has been declared an SP? For example, lets say a Scientologist is a new car salesperson, and the new car sales manager (their boss, and someone they need to work with to sell cars) is a declared SP? Or if the two people are put on the same project, etc., can they still work together/interact without getting in trouble with the Church?

    (6) Have you ever come across anything more creepy than the video section on davidmiscavige.org?

    (7) Do you think, as a big cash grab and PR stunt, SMP would ever make a theatrical feature to be released to the public? Maybe a soft reboot of Battlefield Earth

    (8) Have you ever had someone contact you who left because of your channel or who wants out but fears disconnection, losing everything, and facing life without a job history, skills, education, friends, or money?

  • Critical Q&A #195

The weekly show where I answer viewer questions left in the comment section of my Q&A videos or sent to me by email at [email protected]. This week, the questions I answer are:

    (1) Who ACTUALLY has the power in the “church” to declare someone an SP? Do they all come direct from Miscavige? If they don’t, does he need to approve all of them? Or is it something lower ranking executives at Org levels have the power to issue without higher approval?

    (2) I’m interested in the beaching policy. Could you explain the offenses that would result in beaching and does beaching automatically declare you or does it mean you go public or make amends? I would love to hear an interview of a former Sea Org member who was beached.

    (3) So Scientology all begins with potentially a body router gets you to come into an Org & you fill out the questionnaire and probably whatever you write the rep is undoubtedly going to say…”we can help you with that” and so it begins. So now you begin your arduous and expensive journey up the Bridge to Total Freedom. Then as you continue to rise, you will experience some basic gains such as the Communications Course and then you come across other issues on things that don’t make as much sense as the earlier courses but you think that as you have spent all this money maybe it’s just you since other people around you seem to be doing well. Maybe the next level will clarify things. And so it keeps going but then once you have read OT 3 and accepted what it says, the next levels makes no sense to me.

From what I understand is that you now pay an increasingly large amount of money and audit yourself which is called I believe solo auditing. You are identifying where all of your body thetans are located and removing them one by one. Correct me if I’m wrong here but isn’t that like for example wanting to learn French and you pay a large amount of money and are given a book and told read it and that will be $50K. Anyway assuming this unbelievably is still making sense to you, you then continue on up to OT 7 & then finally to OT 8.

I have many books by all of the major critics and I listen to as many You Tube shows and podcasts on this subject as possible. I am almost addicted to this subject as it’s so damn interesting but in the same way a car crash is. It’s hard not to look as most of the stories are amazing and what’s more they are real. So what I really want to know is whether I’m correct in my assertion that the main benefit of paying all that money and the hours of studying is so that when you die you now have the ability to choose a body and return to Earth with full memory of your past life and be a full OT 8 Scientologist. Do I have this right? What is the point of doing this as the big prize at the top of The Bridge is basically unattainable to the rank-and-file Scientologist. Please help me to understand.

    (4) Has Scientology historically favored a particular political party or are they just opportunists who seek to corrupt any government officials that further their goals, regardless of affiliation?

    (5) You once told me that it has been a long long time since Miscavige was in session. If he were to get hurt (ex: break a leg skiing), would he also go through PTS Handling, or would he just go to one of his secluded mansions and stay out of site until he was feeling better? Or would he just pick some Sea Org person on his staff, and say they are the PTS and tell his subordinates to “…sec check the bleep out of that person…” i.e. skip any formal PTS process? I’m guessing he must have caught a cold, or gotten hurt sometime in the last few years.

    (6) What remake/reboot/sequel are you most looking forward to in 2019?

    (7) How similar is Scientology to black magic, which Hubbard studied? Does black magic work?

    (8) I think you mentioned somewhere that even people who trained with L. Ron Hubbard himself had to re-do their training. How could they justify that?

  • Critical Q&A #194

The weekly show where I answer viewer questions left for me in the comment section of my Q&A videos or sent to me by email at [email protected]. This week, the questions I answer are:

    (1) If someone comes in to Scientology and says they are L. Ron Hubbard reborn, how does Scientology authenticate the claim? Or if someone young comes in to an Org and says they were in Scientology in a past life and have already signed a billion year contract, what would they do? If somehow proven true (yeah, right!), do they have to sign up for another billion years? Is there some written procedure to follow in either case?

    (2) I was watching Ron Miscavige’s podcast recently and he mentioned a policy document of Ron Hubbard’s called “The Responsibility of Leaders” in which Hubbard cites examples of tactics a leader needs to master including violence, murder, rape, child abuse and so on. He apparently states that a leader should have subordinates under him who are willing to do illegal things and not tell the leader, so as not to compromise him. One example is murder, another blackmail, he says and then asserts that David Miscavige used this policy letter as his Bible, finding Hubbard stating that ruthlessness is an important trait for a leader to have. Firstly, this seems a very Hitleresque kind of view of leadership and what is also Hitleresque is the lack of reciprocity – the subordinate must be prepared to risk all for the leader but the leadership takes no responsibility for any personal trouble the subordinate may incur. If this is really so, it is a very destructive view of management and leadership and good for anyone interested in Scientology to be very clear about. I’d appreciate your thoughts on this.

    (3) Chris, why didn’t LRH get pneumonia when he discovered the Xenu story? Or, for that matter, the OT 8 materials?

    (4) I was at a friend’s house and saw a number of large OT books from Scientology. If they’re his books does he report everything we do back to Scientology?

    (5) Just reading Tony Ortega’s post about the Garcia case and the search for arbitrators for a refund case. Here’s my boggle. Since all Scientologists, even public, are dealt into a kind of sales commission scheme for bringing in new people (like 15%), doesn’t that make every Scientologist financially vested in the success of the church? Therefore, in selecting an arbitrator among persons of “good standing”, that means you’re also required to select people who are financially entangled in the outcome of the church’s activities. Since all “Scientologists in good standing” are financially entangled in the operations of the church, doesn’t that make the original arbitration clause invalid from the start? Ignoring religion for a moment, and simply looking at the money flow, the Garcias can make a case that all good standing members have too much money at stake to be objective.

    (6) Since you’ve been a YouTube producer for 4 years and are now married to someone with a Masters degree in film…. can we expect some kind of long from film or documentary from you?

    (7) At what point on The Bridge does a Scientologist give up cigarettes? Also, what is the most popular brand of cigarettes smoked by members of the Church of Scientology?

    (8) I just had a question about the security staff at Flag. I know we all had to keep stats and turn them in at 14:00 Thursday, so what is the stat for the security people? Is it how many SO staff not blown this week?

  • Critical Q&A #193

The weekly show where I answer viewer questions based on what they wrote in the comment section of my Q&A videos or sent to me by email at [email protected]. This week the questions I answer are:

    (1) The other day I watched Aaron Smith-Levin’s latest assessment of the number of members the CoS has today being less than 35,000. He broadly estimated some 10,000 – 12,000 staff, including Sea Org members and about 25,000 public Scientologists.

That is a ratio of 1 staff member to 2.5 “clients” or paying customers! That is absurd. What are all those people doing? They may be busy around the clock, but what is each one, in fact, producing? Movies, spying, cleaning, cooking etc, etc – it all seems like making work for each other and being involved in things that don’t actually bring in money or provide services. Thousands of auditors, for whom? How many persons does the average auditor service, or better, what is the maximum number he or she can handle?

Then there is the acquisition of expensive real estate. I saw the CoS acquired Kyalami Castle in Johannesburg, a huge, crazily opulent millionaire’s dream dominating the Lone Hill skyline close to where I used to work. How can they ever hope to make such a thing pay? Surely the local Scientologists cannot be expected to finance something like that. There simply aren’t enough of them with money. It will probably stand empty most of the time.

Similarly, in Basel where I now live, there is an Ideal Org, an office block costing many millions which stands empty most of the time and where nobody seems to be doing anything.

Purchasing buildings like this may prove they are wealthy and growing, but they cost a whole lot of money, servicing bonds, maintaining and so on. Eventually all of this is surely going to deplete the funds of the Church, as tying up such a lot of money in investments on which there is no return must finally lead to insolvency?

Can you explain this kind of financing, how it is organised and what the eventual outcome is expected to be, vs. what it is likely to be?

    (2) Many people have wondered whether or not Miscavige is a true believer in Scientology. I know he hasn’t been audited since the 1990s. However, if he weren’t a true believer, why would he spend tens of millions of dollars on preserving Hubbard’s works in secret vaults?

    (3) I’ve been watching and listening to you for a long time now and it’s always struck me at how well adjusted you seem to be. You had to start all over and lost everything you really ever knew. How? I’m asking because I lost my job of 22 years about a year and a half ago and I’m not adjusting well at all. Things haven’t been the same since. I try to remain “normal” and I’m going on with life but feel like I’m not nearly as resilient as I once was. I guess I’m just a little desperate thinking you’ll have some magical nugget of insight that you haven’t already laid out for us. Do you think it’s something you learned or had “beaten “ into you in your years in Scientology? Is there any extract that can be taken and used to actually help people? I’ve read a lot of self help books and things but I find you amazing for the facts mentioned above. I need to regain or develop some resiliency.

    (4) I have a child with a mental health disability. Were you ever aware of Scientology preying on families or parents/guardians who were not yet ready to face the fact that their child had a problem, i.e. there was a new “normal”? I know in the early stages of our family’s journey, we could have been very open to arguments that denied a need for therapy or medication or anything like that. We, as our child’s parents, had our own expectations that had nothing to do with her actual needs.

Our child got help at our local Children’s Hospital and has had the benefit of 3 years of therapy and medicine and engaged parents at this point. And our new “normal” still is not what most people would consider “normal.” She’ll need these tools for the rest of her life. That’s just the truth.

My then-spouse and I were at our weakest on diagnosis. We would have done anything under the Google God to avoid accepting our new — our our child’s new — reality. Does Scientology target folks like us?

    (5) Who besides Miscavige speaks at major events these days now that all the other high level executives are either in the Hole or have blown? What faces do active Scientologist see on stage these days? Would anyone from a decade ago still be showing up besides Miscavige and the LRH Biographer?

    (6) The videos produced by Scientology Media Productions and Golden Era almost look like Michael Bay films, with their epic bloom lighting, color grading, slow motion and tracking shots. Are the people who make these videos actual media professionals or are they all just randomly assigned to that post and told to “make it go right”? Are there any civilians that work there and get paid or are they all “volunteers” skilled in cinematography? What kind of training or “hatting” do they get, or are they just thrown into the fire and expected to figure it out?

    (7) I presume Google’s analytics show you where you viewers are. Do you see visits from within Scientology organizations? There’s no way OSA is not monitoring all of your videos.

    (8) If Scientologists believe in reincarnation essentially, then where are all the “second life” OT8’s who can recall their past life when they completed the bridge?

  • Critical Q&A #192

The weekly show where I answer viewer questions based on what has been left in the comment sections of my Q&A videos or sent to me by email to [email protected]. This week, the questions I answer are:

    (1) I wanted know more about the Super Power Building and what are the new strange super power things that Scientologist are suppose to learn there.

    (2) When I blew from the Sea Org after 13 years, I went thru a long period of being afraid to let anyone know of my connection to Scientology. I felt embarrassed about that and lied on my job applications about my job history. Through the years I got used to thinking and speaking without all the habitual Scientology words and phrases, but there are a few I never came up with good enough English words for, such as “dev-t” and “serv-fac.” Could you pass on your replacements for these and other Scn words please?

    (3) Please explain a lot more about the Marcabians and the Between-Lives Area and the implant stations. I believe one is meant to be on the Moon and there are others on Venus which is impossible, of course, because the average temperature on Venus in the winter is something like 450 C. Venus also has an atmosphere much heavier than Earth’s and it would be imposible for a person to be on the surface because of the air pressure. We have mapped all of Venus and the Moon. Where are the implant stations?

    (4) The problem of the church, from what I see, lies at its control center: Miscavige. He is heavily insulated. So how is he to be flushed out in the open? How is he to be confronted? I can’t help but compare him to a tyrant like Stalin. He was totally insulated and managed to live out his life and die of old age in his bed. He dictated his edicts from within an almost impenetrable bunker. Miscavige operates similarly, or so it seems. How can he be caught and made accountable?

    (5) How is it possible that staff members know about the Tone Scale but then allow other staff members to abuse them. When you do your work at tone level 3 and then you boss come to you and is yelling at 1.5 (antagonism) or 1.1 (covert hostility). How is it possible that they accept that and not say “Hey friend, what you are doing now is not ok and put your TRs in and get some training”?

    (6) Do you find yourself avoiding some situations because they remind you of Scientology somehow?

    (7) A lot of Scientologist experience at staff level seems to involve deprivation and punishment. Is there any evidence that the architect of much of this in latter days, David Miscavige, has had experience of same in his formative Scientology days?

    (8) I have found Scientology’s fast paced nerdy music gets really too much after a while. And that is another thing I wanted to go over. Over past twenty years, their music hasn’t seen much change. They keep playing the same or very similar music, even tho electronic music has seen massive shift and overhaul over the years. So they seem to be in a time capsule stuck on 90s music. How did you feel about the fast annoying music Chris? How does anyone else feel about it?

  • Critical Q&A #191

The weekly show where I answer viewer questions left in the comments section of my Q&A videos or sent to me by email to [email protected]. This week, the questions I answer are:

    (1) I went on to the official Scientology website and it said that there is a mission about a mile away from my house. But when I asked for the closest org to me, it said the org in Miami (an hour away) is closest. What is the difference between an org and a mission? Also, I called the number listed on their website for the mission near me and it was disconnected! So a few days later I drove to the mission. It is an old ruin of a small office building. It’s completely empty with a huge For Lease sign out front. What is going on? Why list this mission on their website at all if it doesn’t actually exist?

    (2) If you have heard of and listened to Jordan Peterson, what are you thoughts on him and his positions as related to gender roles? Do you feel that he is a critical thinker or biased trying to rationalize his views?

    (3) As a fun thought experiment what do you think would be the first things LRH would do if he walked into a Scientology church tomorrow and was somehow authenticated? Use R2-45 on Miscavige immediately for his squirrel changes to the tech?

    (4) On the AMA Reddit session at the end of season 1, Mike Rinder mentioned how he had reviewed the script for Pulp Fiction and actually advised John Travolta not to take the role. Has the Church ever expressly forbidden one of its celebrities to take a certain role due to concerns about how that role is going to be portrayed? What kind of mental gymnastics does the Church do when one of its celebrities takes a role playing a character that they would consider suppressive?

    (5) At various times you have commented about Star wars, Star Trek and other movies. You have said you enjoyed reading fantasy, and I am guessing movies as well. I have also heard you use the word, “Grok” a few times, so are you a Heinlein fan as well? What are your favorite (hard core) SF authors?

    (6) Did LRH ever go by Lafayette or did anyone ever call him Lafayette? Or was this automatically an RPF sentence? Seems “Lafayette” may have more credibility leading a religion than “Ron”.

    (7) Have you kept any material that you picked up along the way in Scientology, such as the books, cassette tapes, CDs, etc?

    (8) With Scientology’s views on members of the Sea Org having children (forced abortions and now even worse, male vasectomies), how can David Miscavige have such a large family if he is the very top guy in the Sea Org? Surely he ought to follow the same rules that apply to all Sea Org members? I suspect you will say he is simply above the law/rules imposed on everyone else but how can he or others reconcile that?

  • Critical Q&A #190

The weekly show where I answer viewer questions. This week, the questions I take up are:

    (1) If everything LRH said or wrote was, in effect, law and the final word on the subject how can you explain that OT8 was issued and when it was deemed a disaster, a new version appeared, yet LRH had been dead for 2 years. How on Earth can that happen as clearly Hubbard didn’t write it, Miscavige did. How did he get the ok to re-write the words of LRH?

    (2) When I was in Scientology back in the early 1970s, St Hill Orgs had several things that were unique to them: delivery of Power and Power Plus (Grades 5 & 5A), the Briefing Course (Class 6 auditor), and Class 7 auditor training. From what I know now, Grade 5 is Dianetic auditing, often resulting in Clear. If Dianetic clear is achieved, then the next step for the confirmed Clear is at an Advanced Org to do OT 1. Also, as I understand it, the Briefing Course is no longer offered to non-SO public. It this is true, what do the St Hill orgs do these days?

    (3) Right after the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting my wife asked me, “Why are the Jews so hated?” I’m ashamed to say that I didn’t have an answer for her. I don’t know why the Jews are so hated. So, why are the Jews so hated?

    (4) I just stumbled on something called “Writers of the Future”, a science fiction and fantasy writing contest started by Hubbard in the early 1980s. Apparently, it’s an annual affair, and each year, an anthology of winning works is published under the title L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future. Looks like 34 volumes have been released to date. What, if anything, have you heard about it during your time in Scientology?

    (5) We know about Scientology’s claims to reduce drug use, crime, etc, but do they do ANYTHING to help their fellow man in even the simplest of ways? Food kitchens/pantries, toy drives, clothes drives, habitat for humanity? The only thing I can think of is to grease the palms of some police departments with donations. For that matter can you think of anything Hubbard did that was positive along these same lines.

    (6) Since you are now in a bigger place, are you gonna get your cat Seven a baby brother or sister? My cat Bo, the cat in my avatar, asked me to ask you.

    (7) Back in the 90’s my best friend’s mother ran a company that contracted out massage therapists to a number of the big resorts in Phoenix. John Travolta was a frequent guest at one of them and was eventually banned from getting in-room massages because he kept sexually harassing the male therapists. He kept asking them to “rub his connectors” referring to his testicles. This to me has always sounded like Scientologese. Is “connector(s)” a term used among Scientologists to refer to the testicles or is this just a Travolta thing? I’m dead serious.

    (8) We all know that OSA monitors all the supporter groups, all the blogs, books, articles. etc. I was wondering if you know if any of these “agents” have had a needle prick put into their bubble after reading all the stories? Sort of like what you did when you started checking out the internet? Do you know if any of these people have had seconds thoughts about their beliefs and maybe left the Sea Org and eventually the church?

  • Critical Q&A #189 & A Point About Recovery

This week, I did a Q&A livestream and also talked about a significant change for me personally which came unexpectedly from the comments and feedback I received to my recent announcement about a schedule change for this channel.

  • Critical Q&A #188

The weekly show where I answer viewer questions left for me in the comment section of my Q&A videos or sent to me by email at [email protected]. This week, the questions I answer are:

    (1) It must of been odd for you to transition from life in Scientology to normal life. If I could ask an odd question, did it feel secluded, for lack of a better word, when you initially left? I couldn’t imagine too many people around any given person could relate and bring comfort to somebody leaving a cult.

    (2) Do you ever get nervous about the road ur life has taken n stop reflecting on it?

    (3) I would really like you to talk about the cost to your personal spirit and how you were able to overcome it and be the open sweet person you are? I can tell you are a very caring person and being that that was discouraged how did you reconnect with the sensitive loving side of yourself? Also what was it like to be the master of your own time after years of being controlled for so long?

    (4) I recently watched Leah’s show with Valerie Haney and I was wondering about exit interviews. Are all exit interviews unique to the person leaving or are they all the same? It seems like they often ask about David Miscavige and abuse. The church brought out her answers to the exit interview to try to show she’s a liar, but I think it makes the church look guilty. Thoughts?

    (5) There are free online courses on the Scientology website. Are these any different from the courses with the same names that you pay for at an org? What are the dangers of enrolling while even using a fake identity?

    (6) I would love to know how many who work in the SO end up in some kind of fugue state due to being overworked.

    (7) Have you ever been contacted independently by 2 “under the radar” Scientologists who are wanting advice on how to tell the other they want out, i.e. Bob and Mary are married and neither knows the other feels the same way and both have been watching your videos w/o the other knowing.

    (8) Are there any statistics on what percent of Sea Org members have left?
