生长在多元文化的城市国家，新加坡人能够轻松自如地应对多重身份，而许多国人也选择到海外求学和工作。新加坡华人如何适应海外生活，融入全球化的世界？这一期的早报播客《三言两语》，请新加坡优秀的指挥家黄佳俊分享他在国外生活的故事。佳俊是首位获得“古斯塔夫·马勒指挥大赛”冠军的亚洲人。他目前是日本爱乐交响乐团的首席客卿指挥，并会在明年9月出任交响乐团的首席指挥，任期五年。

Growing up in a multicultural city-state, Singaporeans are comfortable with navigating multiple identities, and many of them choose to study and work abroad. How does being Chinese Singaporean fit in a globalised world? This episode invites Singaporean music conductor Wong Kah Chun to share his experience of living abroad. 

Kah Chun is the principal guest conductor of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra. Known internationally as Kahchun Wong, he is the first Asian to win the first prize at the Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition in 2016. He has been appointed chief conductor of the orchestra, and will begin his five-year appointment in September 2023.

高程锦是新加坡优秀的青年作曲家，曾获得2014年全国华乐比赛扬琴公开组冠军，毕业于美国茱莉亚音乐学院作曲系，目前在纽约大学攻读博士学位。她的丈夫是来自马来西亚的著名音乐家东姑阿末依方（Tengku Ahmad Irfan）。这一期的早报播客《三言两语》，听程锦分享她的跨国异族婚姻故事。

Is it hard for Chinese Singaporean families to talk about love? Do they express their love in a more subtle manner? How do they express love towards their parents? How are their perceptions of love shaped by the multicultural society they live in? In this episode of Same Same But Different podcast, Singapore’s young music composer Janinah Koh shares her story of an interracial marriage. 

Janinah Koh is a Yang Qin and violin performer currently based in New York. She is also the winner of the 2022 BMI Student Composer Award (William Schuman Prize) and ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award.

What is the mother tongue of Chinese Singaporeans? Mandarin, dialects or other languages? What is considered standard Mandarin? What is the language Chinese Singaporeans use in their dreams and arguments with others?  In this episode, veteran media practitioner Danny Yeo shares his views and experience of growing up in a multilingual environment. A well-known presenter in Singapore, Danny started his career in the media sector more than 30 years ago. His work experience spans radio, television, theatre, writing and education.

新加坡的注册生死程序数码化，移民与关卡局5月29日之后就不再发出纸质证书给新生儿，电子版出生证取代纸质出生纸后不再注明父母籍贯引起争议。电子版出生证推行四个月后，当局决定再次在出生证上注明籍贯。

这一期的早报播客《三言两语》，邀请 Our Grandfather Story 的联合创始人陈扬意和冈州会馆青年团主任黄钰清分享他们如何看待自己的籍贯和寻根的意义。

陈扬意在南大读书时期开始投身短片拍摄。2017年，她和同学共同成立视频媒体Our Grandfather Story，旗下节目包括《Can Ask Meh?》、《Can We Agree to Disagree?》。

黄钰清自小爱看武侠片，在2016年放弃欧洲工商管理学院（INSEAD）的博士学位课程，投身于弘扬宗乡文化。2018年，她是“好嘢节”的发起人兼总监，“好嘢节”以推广新加坡广客文化为宗旨，鼓励年轻人寻根。钰清也拍摄了纪录短片《消失的飘香记忆》。

In Singapore, babies born after May 29, 2022, will be issued with digital birth certificates instead of physical certificates. Among the fields of information that were left out from the digital birth certificates included parents’ dialect groups. After the exclusion of this information drew strong reactions from the public, the authorities decided to reinstate parents’ dialect groups in the birth certificates. 

In this episode, Carine Tan, co-founder of Our Grandfather Story, and Lynn Wong, the youth group leader of Kong Chow Wui Koon Singapore, share their views and stories about dialect groups and cultural roots. 

Our Grandfather Story started off as a filming project at Nanyang Technological University. The project was well received and subsequently received funding to be developed into a media company. 

Lynn Wong switched careers from academia to preserving Singapore’s Chinese heritage. In 2018, she launched Ho Yeah Festival, to showcase Cantonese and Hakka culture as well as to inspire the youth to connect with their cultural roots. She also produced a documentary short film “Reviving Our Forefathers' Disappearing Foods”.
