00. A Sneak Peek Into The Good Office Podcast

Listen Later

Not all Business Podcasts are the same, but how many podcasts can teach you how to perfectly blend conscious capitalism and social entrepreneurship? Not many.

Enter me, Jillian Ryan, a former D.C. geopolitical risk analyst turned social enterprise company owner. Throughout my career working as a geopolitical risk analyst to some of the world’s largest Fortune100 companies - I had unique access to their C-suite execs and how they thought. And what I saw over and over again - including within industries that you normally wouldn’t associate with “doing good” - is that most of our clients had a genuine desire to do good in the communities they were operating in around the world.

All of this inspired me to start Marie Mae, a company offering ethically sourced materials, supporting small businesses and most importantly, giving back to the community!

When I launched, it felt quite frankly, silly to establish some core values as at that time it was just me, myself, and I. But I really am glad that I did that, as having established core values helps us stay true to our mission and helps our employees and vendors and clients know immediately what we are about.

Our 4 core values are: Do Good; Lead with Integrity; Practice Gratitude; and Be Authentic. So each episode will fall under one of our 4 main themes:
Doing Good:
How can you make an impact, regardless of the industry you're in; how and why you need to make sure your giveback is aligned with the mission of your company; and lots of interviews with people in various sectors.
Leading with Integrity:
The type of leadership that you need in your business, and examples of how we pivoted our business in a crisis and how our small but mighty team grabbed the attention of Ellen’s team.
Practicing Gratitude:
How to show gratitude as a company, with episodes on why we chose to build a corporate gifting company specifically, and several case studies with our corporate clients on how they are making an impact and gaining new clients by being strategic with their gifting (even in a time of economic downturn).
Being authentic.
The importance of authenticity in a company - why and how to be transparent about how your products are made, how to authentically show up for your non-profit partners, and some of the challenges and opportunities of working with artisans across the globe.

Stay tuned for future episodes as I reveal all my secrets on how I've turned a side hustle into a fast growing, half a million dollar a year corporate gifting company;
how I've secured an order for 300,000 boxes of stationery and most recently, how we've started to experience hyper growth in the 4th quarter of last year!
