002 - Should You Change to Electronic Access?

Listen Later

Salesey people are annoying.. we have all dealt with them. I’m in sales and they annoy the bejesus out of me! Time and time again we run into customers who have gotten previous quotes from other companies and people telling them they NEED to switch from locks to electronic access. NOT ALWAYS TRUE! There is a bunch of factors that go into if it’s necessary. Take a really hard look at your protection assets and ask yourself these questions:

  • What’s your budget?
  • What is the impact of a loss event?
  • What is your celebrated entrance? Do you have one?
  • What are your assets?
  • Do your assets match your investment strategies?

If you do go down this path.. you need to know what kinds of access there is. We have two main types on site/ on prem or cloud based.

  • Cloud based- This is exactly what it sounds like. The program is hosted in the cloud with an on site presence of equipment. You get to use mobile passes as credentials, can manage from anywhere, software updates itself. There will be monthly fees associated with the system. It’s safe to assume almost anything in the cloud has a monthly fee.
  • On site- This too is what it sounds like. On premise / on site. All management of the system takes place at the site. Someone quits or gets fired? You’re going to the office to take them out of the system. Card get’s lost or stolen? You’re going to the office to fix the problem. An on prem system will not have monthly fees.

There is no one simple answer for businesses across the board. All businesses and facilities are different, operations, physically, budgetarily. This is why we encourage you to take a hard look at what you are dealing with before you jump on the access control band wagon.
