Gaza's largest protest movement in recent years was a weekly demonstration organized by Gazan journalist Ahmed Abu Artema. These peaceful protests attracted tens of thousands of participants who gathered near the border fence between the Gaza Strip and Israel. Sadly, we've come to expect Israeli aggression directed towards any such event, and this is no exception. Snipers were deployed, and Palestinian lives were illegally taken by occupation forces. Despite the prices paid, the Great March of Return was a crucial movement that drew the worlds attention back to the humanitarian aspect of this conflict. It brought international eyes back to the peaceful protest rather than Hamas and it's armed militia.
