Hussein & Aminah Musa are the brother/sister duo behind the incredible PaliRoots brand. I had the pleasure of chatting with them about their company, their involvement in charity in Gaza and the Palestinian story, identity and culture. They are two of the nicest people that I have had the chance to meet, and their love shows through their brand. If you don't know PaliRoots, consider this your introduction.

In early June 1967, reality in the Middle East changed drastically. Following increased tensions on the borders of Israel and its neighbors and the closing of the Straits of Tiran by Egypt's President Nasser, Israel executed a preemptive strike on Egypt, sparking the infamous Six Day War. When the dust settled and the sun set on the region upon the signing of the ceasefire agreement, Israel more than doubled its size by way of seizing the Golan Heights, the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and the Sinai Peninsula. The region had undergone major changes in a very short amount of time, leaving the Arab nations surrounding Israel kneeling at the boots of their enemy. It is at this moment in history when occupation began in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip; an occupation that remains to this day. Israel solidified its control over the Palestinian people and still has yet to relax its grip. These six days at the beginning of June 1967, will continue to loom over Palestine until the military occupation of the territories seizes to exist. The outside world knows this conflict as the Six Day War; Palestine knows it as an-Naksa, the Setback.

Yasser Arafat is perhaps the most notable face in the story of Palestinian resistance. As the leader of Fatah, Chairman of the PLO, and President of the Palestinian Authority, his prominence in this story is undeniable. He's a man that many look up to still, over a decade after his death. His charismatic approach to politics and his bold stance as part of the resistance solidified him as the father figure of the Palestinian people during the last few decades of the 20th century. Though I am certain most of you will have heard of Arafat, there is likely much you don't know about him. Take a listen and discover the life of Abu Ammar.

In today's episode, we will take a look at one of the most important issues in today's conversation surrounding Israel, Palestine and the prospect of peace in the region. The illegal Israeli settlements that dominate the West Bank and East Jerusalem are easily the largest obstacle on the path towards an agreement of any kind, as they plainly disregard the pre-June 1967 borders that most of the world recognizes between Israel and Palestine. They are in clear violation of the 4th Geneva Convention, and on top of their obvious illegality, they bring a host of other issues. Settler violence and harassment is a very real problem for many Palestinian families living near settlements, home demolition and evictions are prominent, and the apartheid wall that snakes in and out of the West Bank for the purpose of "security". We will look at all of these issues during the episode, in which we try to shed some light on the problematic Israeli settlements.

Hamas, or the Islamic Resistance Movement began long before the world heard their name. Created in the late 1980s, Hamas has been at the forefront of the Palestinian resistance since its inception. I feel as though the group gets misrepresented in our typical mainstream news narrative, and while it certainly has its fair share of issues, there is more to be understood. Hop into this brief look at Hamas to learn more about it's history and its dealings throughout the years. This is not a comprehensive analysis by any means, but rather a good jumping off point for those who want to know more and an angle that is not afraid of viewing the whole picture.

Gaza's largest protest movement in recent years was a weekly demonstration organized by Gazan journalist Ahmed Abu Artema. These peaceful protests attracted tens of thousands of participants who gathered near the border fence between the Gaza Strip and Israel. Sadly, we've come to expect Israeli aggression directed towards any such event, and this is no exception. Snipers were deployed, and Palestinian lives were illegally taken by occupation forces. Despite the prices paid, the Great March of Return was a crucial movement that drew the worlds attention back to the humanitarian aspect of this conflict. It brought international eyes back to the peaceful protest rather than Hamas and it's armed militia. Jump in to this episode to learn more about this massively important protest movement, that attracted the empathy of many.

Formally revealed on January 28th, 2020, the Trump Administration's Peace to Prosperity: A Vision to Improve the Lives of the Palestinian and Israeli People is the latest attempt at a peace deal between Israel and Palestine. Lead by Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, and excluding any input from Palestinian leadership, this attempt a peace is an embarrassment. The so called "Deal of the Century" requires countless concessions from Palestine, and none from Israel. It is a one sided attempt at continuing on the occupation we see today, and this plan would do nothing to bring the region closer to peace. This peace plan is a prime example of why the United States should not hold its role of mediator between Israel and Palestine and shows the absolute need for an unbiased third party to broker peace in the region. This episode dissects the plan, exposing it for what it really is. This is no deal, its yet another steal from the Palestinians.
